Last night the Lions Club hosted Sight for Kids, and we were proud to be part of it. Our team was out passing around samples from the California Grill kitchen, talking with families and neighbors, and pitching in to help the fundraiser any way we could.
It was not our event, and that is the point. The best nights in a community are the ones where a lot of people show up for somebody else's cause. The Lions Club put in the work, and we brought the food.
Why we show up
California Grill has been family owned on Painter Ave since 1996. Thirty years in one spot means the people at these events are our regulars, our neighbors and the families we have fed for decades. When a local group is raising money for kids, showing up is not marketing. It is just what a neighborhood restaurant is for.
Nights like Sight for Kids also remind us how many good causes run quietly in Whittier every week: school groups, sports teams, churches and service clubs, all trying to raise a little more for the people they serve.
